Hey guys, We are on day SIX of #contemporaryathon We are at the very last day of contemporarathon and I think I did decent. I got to four out of five books. I'm just finishing up the fourth now - Girl Made of Stars and it's breaking my little heart. So good though. Hey guys, We are on day SIX of #contemporaryathon It's almost over and I haven't done as well as I would've liked but we'll see how I do by tomorrow night! Today's IG Prompt is: FAVE LGBTQIAP+ contemporary novel. I have several but I am going to go with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for this because it's one of my all-time favorite novels. The hype was real but the hype was sooooo deserved. If you haven't read this yet, you are missing out. My life is better because I read this book and I mean that with my whole heart. This does feature more than one LGBTQIAP+ relationship but the one that is mostly focused on is amazing. It's ugly, messy, beautiful, heart breaking and most of all - REAL. This isn't a book you pick up to swoon over, these are real, very flawed characters and I treasure them. Obviously, I think you can tell by now that I HIGHLY recommend this book. Hey guys, We are on day FIVE of #contemporaryathon We are entering the weekend. I wish I could say I would've gotten more read than I have but so far I've finished two books this week and have three more to go to meet my contemporary goals. I doubt I'll make it but I think I can get The Wicker King and Girls Made of Stars done. I'll have to read On the Come Up next week because it's a bit longer and I don't want to rush it. Todays contemporaryathon IG prompt is: Fave #ownvoices contemporary novel written by a black author. This one is easy and I'm sure it will be a lot of people's pick today. Of course, it's The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I know this book got a ton of hype but sometimes book 100% deserve all the hype they get plus more! This is one of them. I'm so happy that this book has done so well and it's been on the NYT Bestseller list forever! One of the most important and eye-opening books I've ever read. Hey guys, We are on day FOUR of #contemporaryathon How is everyone making out? I'm finishing up my second book for the readathon and then moving on to either Girls Made of Stars or Wicked King. Still Undecided. I was going to finish them yesterday but I wasn't feeling great at night, so here's hoping I can get through the rest today! Today's prompt for #contemporaryathon is: Show Your Burple Book. I picked Girls Made of Stars. I've been wanting to read this since it came out and I'm finally going to do so this week. The cover is stunning and the book seems like a very heavy hitting contemporary, which means I'll be in tears I'm sure! Hey guys, We are on day THREE of #contemporaryathon How is everyone making out? I'm still working through To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin and The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson. I was going to finish them yesterday but I wasn't feeling great at night, so here's hoping I can get through the rest today! Today's prompt for #contemporaryathon is: Favorite Non-fiction Contemporary. Ok I have to be real - I had no idea what this category even was. I had to bug @according2jewls and @meltotheany to give me examples because I was worried I'd have to use one of my many True Crime books and reveal how much of a sociopath I truly am! Thankfully, I thought of a couple books that don't have to do with the murder of many LOL I picked Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson, who is absolutely hilarious about some pretty dark topics. Jenny talks openly about her struggles with anxiety and depression and my mother brought this home as a present one day when I was going through a very tough time. It took me awhile to read because of my depression but it made me laugh, which was something I hadn't been doing at all. Hey guys, We are on day TWO of #contemporaryathon How is everyone making out? I'm currently almost done To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin and working through The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson. Really liking both. Today's prompt for #contemporaryathon is: Favorite Romantic Contemporary. Honestly, I struggled a little because I don't read very much lighter contemporary (I feel like a broken record with that lol). The books that instantly popped up for me were the romances in Becky Albertalli's book. I loved her books so much. I didn't include Simon vs. in this photo because I only have it in paperback and it was throwing off my aesthetic - yes, I'm shallow like that.
