Top Ten Tuesday #48: Favorite Shows/Movies to Watch on Halloween

top ten tuesday

Hey guys! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, which is currently being run by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl.  We knew instantly that we wanted to take part in this weekly meme because both of us love making list, so this is perfect!

This week’s (October 29th, 2019) topic: Halloween Freebie.  We decided to go another way with this week again because it’s Halloween month and do: Favorite Shows/Movies to Watch on Halloween

This is a tough one for me because I go on a huge horror movie kick every Halloween,

Halloween (1978)
I mean the name says it – it’s freaking Halloween people.  Complete classic and still holds up to this day.

Trick R’ Treat (2007)
If you are a horror fan and you haven’t seen this beloved cult classic, do yourself a favor – go watch it.  This is probably the best Halloween horror movie because it does nothing but celebrate in the holiday – the atmosphere is literally drenched in it.  It’s just so much fun to look at.  This one is an anthology and all the stories are strong I think – it’s all about the Halloween spirit.  Just make sure you play by the Halloween rules and don’t be a grinch, because Sam might show up at your door and teach you a little lesson!

Haunt (2019)
Yep, I’m adding a new one to my list of essentials.  Haunt is perfect for the occasion, not only does it take place on Halloween night but it takes place at a Haunt.  You know those crazy haunted houses that you can go pay a few dollars to have people chase and chase the shit out of you? Yep, that’s the setting.  If you like fun settings like creepy carnival type feels, this one will likely be up your alley.

Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Not a Halloween theme in this one but it’s one of my all-time favorites, so I love popping one of the Elm Street movies in around this time of year.  Usually it’s the first or third one!

The Evil Dead (1981)
The good ole’ Evil Dead, you really can’t go wrong with this one.  It’s just messed up fun.  This will not really be for the mainstream crowd as it was done on a low budget but it’s got some great gore and scenes and the wonderful Bruce Campbell.  Also, rape by a tree – like wtf?
– The remake is as good as the original if you’re looking for something more polished!

*I also adore all the ones Mir has listed – I grew up on all of them and still watch most every year.  Garfield really holds a special place in my heart!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Is it a Halloween movie or Christmas one? I say both. I watch this movie year-round cause I am a huge fan of Tim Burton. I just adore this one to pieces. I can’t wait for Christmas so I can rewatch it.

Garfield’s Halloween Adventure
I’ve always loved Garfield and will watch any special the show has. This one brings me back to when I was a kid just watching cartoons.

The Simpons
I love this show and their Halloween episodes are always the greatest.

This is an oldie but a goodie! Like I said I love Tim Burton, I know his new stuff isn’t up to par with what he used to do, but I will adore his movies.

Hocus Pocus
Though I haven’t watched this one last year I really enjoy this movie. It’s just so much fun and it has Bette Middler how can you not like that.

  1. Ahaha, I think I’m definitely more on Mir’s movie level because those other ones look WAY too creepy for my chicken soul 😂I’ll watch Nightmare Before Christmas anytime anywhere! That’s one of my all time faves 🥰Great take on this freebie!

    My TTT post

  2. Real talk? I’m obsessed with sooo many of these! First of all, Melaine, great picks!!! Evil Dead is one of my favourite horror films of all time. It messed me up SO badly the first time I watched it. No lie! As for Mireille’s Beetlejuice is my ultimate favourite but I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for Hocus Pocus (just rewatched it last night!) and all of The Simpsons Tree House of Horror episodes.

(Incidentally, tied into both of your picks re: the Evil Dead and Beetlejuice, I’ve been listening to the cast recordings of the musicals based upon both of those films A LOT this month. Such a fun coincidence.)

  3. I recently watched Halloween and it wasn’t really for me, but I can see why it’s so iconic. And I always make sure to watch at least one Treehouse of Horror episode because it’s pretty much tradition for me 🙂

  4. The Nightmare Before Christmas is my go-to Halloween/Christmas movie, because I can get away with just watching it the whole end of the year because it’s so clearly BOTH. 😛 I like watching it in French, though, because I like the songs just a little bit more. xD But when I watch with my daughter, I always watch in English … because she’s lame …

Beetlejuice is always a good choice, too, though it’s been a while since I’ve seen it. I should rewatch that.
