Our Next Five Star Predictions

our next 5 star
Hey guys! We decided to pick a few books we are planning on reading over the next few months and predict some of the ones we think will be five stars for us.  We’ll come back to this post once we’ve both read them all and see how we did with our predictions.  We’ve seen this done on Booktube quite a bit and we thought it would be a fun one!

5 books longer

I just recently made a list of books I want to get read before the end of the year, so I’m really glad we are finally doing this post. I’m curious to see how I’ll do with guessing, I feel like I’ll get most of them right but you never know!

Girls of Storm and Shadow (Girls of Paper and Fire #2) by Natasha Ngan
I feel like this is a pretty safe bet because the first book made my Top Ten list last year.  I was lucky enough to get a physical arc of this one, so I’ll be reading that very soon.

Teeth in the Mist by Dawn Kurtagich
I’ve five starred Dawn’s first two books, so I’m hoping that we’ll keep that streak going with this one.  It’s one of my most anticipated books for 2019 and I’ll be reading it in October.

This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis
I know this is a very strange and disturbing book, but I have basically no idea what it’s about.  No one seems to really be able to even articulate what exactly they read after they’ve read it and that gets me pretty excited.  I’ve five starred the Mindy books, I’ve read so far, in the past – I think this will be another one.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power
One of my most anticipated of the year and a lot of others had it on their list as well.  I haven’t read the book yet because it’s a group read in the Facebook group TBR and Beyond for October (We have Rory coming in to talk about it with us as well!!).  The reviews have been all over the place – seems like a love it or hate it, incredibly polarizing.  I’m still going to go with that I’ll love it because I do like odd books and I don’t mind open endings (depending how they are done, obviously).

Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo
Yes, it’s finally happening.  I’m predicting five stars based on Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, this is based on everyone’s love for it.  This isn’t a complete given though.  Yes, I love Leigh, BUT she also created one of my most hated characters of all-time – Mal.  Yes, I’m a Mal hater.  He ruined the Shadow and Bone trilogy for me, I will spare you my rant.  I do love the other characters from the Shadow and Bone trilogy but it was not a five star series for me at all.  Though it did bring me Nikoali and The Darkling, so I have high hopes.  I might even be reading this one by the time this post goes up!

Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton
I’ve been meaning to read this one for a while now. I think the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I know it’s a pretty polarizing book, but I’ve seen some reviewers that I seem to have the same taste as really like it.

The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck
I never read a Colleen Houck book before, but I think I will really enjoy this one. It’s been on my TBR for a couple of months so I’m hoping to get to it next month.

Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
I’ve been waiting to read this one for such a long time. I think that is exactly my brand and am so excited to start it.

Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
I don’t read a lot of horror/suspense books but I keep hearing about Kara Thomas. After reading the description of Little Monsters I really think I will enjoy it very much.

  1. Fun! I just did this post Wednesday for my first time. I’m excited to see how we both end up with our choices. I didn’t look back, but I think I gave 5 stars to Little Monsters, Wilder Girls, and Teeth in the Mist. This Darkness Mine might have been 4 stars. Strange Grace was either 3 1/2 or 4 (I think). Those are the only ones I’ve read so far. I hope you both read a ton of 5 star books for the rest of the year.

  2. There’s some great picks on these lists! I do hope they turn out to be the five stars you hoped for! I just finished Teeth in the Mist a couple weeks ago, and unfortunately, it didn’t entirely work for me? The writing was gorgeous, the atmosphere was so deliciously creepy, but the story felt so disjointed and confusing to me. Hopefully, you won’t have the same problem! I always end up having problems with multiple timelines.

I so want to read Wilder Girls and The Song of Achilles, too!

    1. Thank you so much! Dawn Kurtagich is a very odd writer, so that doesn’t surprise me at all. I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t say if it’s like her other stuff but her other books are quite a mind f*ck to say the least. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. Hopefully Wilder Girls will work better for you!!!
