Hey guys! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, which is currently being run by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. We knew instantly that we wanted to take part in this weekly meme because both of us love making list, so this is perfect!
This week’s (April 23rd, 2019) topic is: (First Ten) Books I Reviewed
Since there are two of us running this blog (Melanie and Mireille), we’re going to break these memes up between us and each pick five!
It’s been awhile for me. I started reviewing back in 2016, so I had to dig into my Goodreads and see what my first books reviewed were!
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I really liked this book and it was one of the first books that got me back into YA after years away from it. I still haven’t continued on with the series but I have no idea why.
You can read my review on Goodreads HERE
The Wishing Spell (The Land of Stories) by Chris Colfer
Unfortunately, this book really didn’t do it for me. I wanted to love it so bad but it was just felt really young, even for middle-grade. You can read my review HERE.
Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson
Huge Jenny fan, this book helped me feel not so alone when I was going through a depression. It’s heartfelt, hilarious and completely odd and I loved it. You can read my Goodreads review HERE.
Asylum by Madeline Roux
Really fun, spooky YA novel with some cool creepy pictures through-out. Sadly, the series kind of went downhill for me after this one. You can read my mini Goodreads review HERE.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer
Another main YA series that got me back in the genre. I picked this up on a whim one day because the covered looked cool and fell in love with it! You can read my Goodreads review HERE.
Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff
How fitting that one of my first review ever was a Jay Kristoff book, lol. You can find it HERE.
Sea Witch by Sarah Henning
Loved this Ursula retelling, it was so unexpected as a story but so so good. You can read my review HERE.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
I have no words to describe my emotions towards this book. It’s one of my top reads ever and was placed in my Holy Grail of books. Read it HERE.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Another of my all time favourite book. Who else is excited for Wayward Son? Read my review of Carry On HERE.
The Dead Queens Club by Hannah Capin
Such a great retelling of one of the most iconic king. Henry VIII was perfect for this modern era contemporary mystery. Click HERE to read my full review
I had a hard time with Land of Stories too- I don’t think I ever finished it. I know people that love it though. And I really should read more Rainbow Rowell.

Yeah, same. I thought I’d love it but felt it was really clunky and kind of thrown together. Not for me I guess. I haven’t read Rainbow either lol

Cinder was important for me too. It was the book that really got me back into YA, reading for pleasure and introduced me to the book community.
My TTT for this week.

That is so cool that it was the book for you as well. It was def one of the big ones that brought me into the community as well.

I had a quandary with this one, as I’ve been reviewing on amazon since 2003 but decided I wanted to make it about my (still a baby) blog instead!

Yeah, I honestly wasn’t positive how to tackle this one because I’ve been on Goodreads longer than my blog, so it was a bit weird to choose how to do it.

I thought about scrolling back through my Amazon profile to get a true picture of my reviewing tastes and style changing but it took long enough to scroll down to last summer I lost the will to live about getting back to 2003 so I thought just make it about the blog as that’s what I want to focus on!

Furiously Happy is a wonderful read! Glad you liked it, too.

I’ve reviewed Cinder, Six of Crows and Sea Witch too, but all in the last few years, since only Cinder was out when I started blogging in 2014!

Cinder seems to be a popular one today. I love seeing how many people have read this book.

Yeah, I see that. I really didn’t expect it to be on so many lists today – kind of cool to see!

I loved Cinder (and the rest of the series!). Carry On too — can’t wait for Wayward Son!

Most of those early reviews seemed to be of books that you two really liked. I’m wondering if that’s a coincidence, or were you more likely to write about the books you felt passionate about?

Complete coincidence for me. I actually had been reading mostly non-fiction (true crime and such) and some adult books for several years prior with a few YA and middle-grade mixed in here and there but when I finally came back to YA, I grabbed a few randomly at the bookstore (I hadn’t heard of any of them – I wasn’t part of the online YA community), so it was pure luck that I fell in love with most of the stuff. I wrote quite a few reviews back then about books I didn’t like as well. Great question though.

Cinder was so much fun. That whole series feels me with such nostalgia. And Six of Crows being the Holy Grail of books? That’s a big YES!

Six of Crows and Cinder are great! Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

I listened to Six of Crows last month and I really liked it.
I got The Lunar Chronicles on sale last year over Black Friday. I was going through my Kindle the other day and I realized that I have Sea Witch too… I must have gotten it on sale at some point. Still have to read both sometime!

I agree with Riggs’ Miss Peregrine series. I haven’t read it til only recently but it definitely deserves the hype it got before. I haven’t read the other books you’ve featured here but most are on my TBR. ❤
