Contemporary-A-Thon TBR

Contemporary

We are super excited to be participating in the fourth round of Contemporary-A-Thon. It runs from February 11th to the 17th. This will be our first time participating and in part that is because they have taken on our lovely friend MeltotheAny.  She’s been so amazing to us and we just love her so much so we had to jump on board! Neither of us are really light/fluffy contemporary readers, so this is a little out of our comfort zone on some, but that is exactly why we wanted to take part.  We both have tons of contemporary sitting on our shelves judging us! I guess we can knock a few out and February is the perfect time.

This read-a-thon is being hosted by four wonderful ladies:

Julie from Pages and Pens  – Chelsea from chelseadolling readsNatasha from myreadingisoddMelanie from MeltotheAny

This reading challenge has seven challenges for the week and we are allowed to double (or more) up on any of the challenges.  Here’s what we are *hoping* to read.

Melanie

➽1. Read your most recently purchased or acquired contemporary
I’m going to read On the Come Up by Angie Thomas for this one.
➽2. Read a contemporary with blurple (blue or purple) on the cover
I’ve picked Girls Made of Stars by Ashley Blake Herring.  This has blue and specks of purple as well on the cover.
➽3. Read a diverse contemporary keeping in mind its African heritage month and an own voices African author would be a great pick
I’m doubling up on this one and choosing On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
➽ 4. Read a dark, taboo, or emotional book
I’m going quite dark on this one, I’ve chosen The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson.  I’ll be buddy reading this one with a couple of friends.
➽ 5. Read a contemporary you meant to read in 2018 but didn’t get to.
Going with To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin.  Really hoping for some great fat rep in this one.
➽ 6. Read a contemporary in a non-traditional format (ebook, audio, graphic novel etc)
I don’t think I’ll be doing this one.  I can’t think of any contemporary graphic novels right off hand and I’d have to go purchase one and I’m honestly too lazy 😛
➽ 7. Read a contemporary with a picture on the spine (not a color or pattern but an image)
I doubt I’ll get to this one BUT, if I have the time then I’ll read The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.

Really hoping I can knock a few of these out and I’m planning on setting aside the week for just reading these books, fingers crossed!

➽1. Read your most recently purchased or acquired contemporary
I will be Buddy Reading When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington with Melanie from MeltotheAny and Felicia from Bookishly Slytherclaw, Heather from Young at Heart Reader and Linda one of the TBR and Beyond moderator.

➽2. Read a contemporary with blurple (blue or purple) on the cover
I will be reading the arc of Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston.

➽3. Read a diverse contemporary keeping in mind its African heritage month and an own voices African author would be a great pick
I am choosing to read Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston which has LGBTQ characters.

➽ 4. Read a dark, taboo, or emotional book
I’m not really sure what I will read for this one yet. I might try and squeeze in On the Come Up by Angie Thomas.

➽ 5. Read a contemporary you meant to read in 2018 but didn’t get to.
I receveid the arc of When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington at the end of last year and wanted to read it then but just didn’t get to it so now is the perfect time.

➽ 6. Read a contemporary in a non-traditional format (ebook, audio, graphic novel etc)
I am tripling up on the book Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston which I have the eArc.

➽ 7. Read a contemporary with a picture on the spine (not a color or pattern but an image)
When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington has a picture on the spine so I will be tripling up on this one too.
Will you be participating? If so let us know what you are reading.
