Hey guys! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, which is currently being run by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. We knew instantly that we wanted to take part in this weekly meme because both of us love making list, so this is perfect!
This week’s (December 4th, 2018) topic is: Cozy/Wintery Reads. Perfect topic for December!
Since there are two of us running this blog (Melanie and Mireille), we’re going to break these memes up between us and each pick five!
The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles) by Laurie Forest
I love reading fantasy in the winter – who am I kidding? I love it all year long! This is a great winter read though!
An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena
What is more cozy than a great mystery? Exactly, nothing! This even takes place at a lodge in the dead of winter during a storm. Perfect!
Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
Do I really even need to explain why I would pick this series? I didn’t think so.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardobe by C.S. Lewis
The most well-know in the Narnia and for good reason. This is fantastic and Narnia is stuck in eternal winter.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I don’t read as many classics as I would like to in any given year but I think the perfect time for a classic is bundled up in your favorite reading spot. Jane Austen is one of my personal favorites and yes, I want to marry Colin Firth (I will fight you all to the death!)
Any Jane Austen book
I LOVE Jane Austen, her novels are perfect for any season, but I do feel they fit winter the best. My fav of hers is of course Pride and Prejudice (Mr Darcy, Swoon!) but I also want to give an honorable mention to Persuasion and Mansfield Park. She was such an avant-garde for her time. Her books are woven with feminism but still manage to keep a sweetness and coziness about them.
Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
What’s better than cozying up with a Potter book while drinking a butterbear? uhhh absolutely nothing!
The Fionavar Tapestry series by Guy Gavriel Kay
I discovered this series while roaming my high school library many many years ago and it is still one of my favs today. The world building of Guy Gavriel Kay is absolutely wonderful and has cross between Narnia and Lord of the Rings inspired story that is just perfect for Winter.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Don’t you just love a good fae book in the winter time? The Cruel Prince is everything I want from a fae book it’s dark, grity and oh so so good. We are really close to the release date of the sequel, I just can’t wait anymore.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
I’ve always loved this story. I remember reading a abridged illustrated kid version so many times and later on the full version. The whole feel of it for me just screams hot tea and cozy blanket.
Aw, Narnia! It’s a perfect fit. Also, I haven’t read it, but I feel as if “Little Women” would be the ideal read for the season. 🙂

I need to read the Cruel Prince. And yay for Narnia! I was really happy to see An Unwanted Guest though, as I just read that recently and really enjoyed the snowbound nature of that mystery- it was fun!

Oh good! Yeah, I haven’t seen much on it but I like Shari’s writing and I thought this was her best yet. It’s def a great winter mystery I think.

I just read The Cruel Prince a few weeks ago, and will definitely be reading the sequel when it comes out. Narnia is definitely a wintry read (at least the first one).

Yes, it’s mostly The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe that gives those winter vibes but I like reading the whole thing in the winter months for whatever reason.

I really want to read An Unwanted Guest. Definitely a good one for the winter weather, it seems. And Harry Potter is great all the time, but winter just seems like an especially good time to dive back into those.

So many perfect choices for cozy and wintry reads. HP is always a must, as is Narnia and Little Women. There’s just something so… warming about them in the winter! Oh, and Jane Austen, of course. I may as well just nod at everything on this list (which, I am) haha

I am debating on adding the Harry Potter series to my 2019 goals. I have only read the first book. I watched all the movies though so I feel like the books wouldn’t be as exciting since I already know what is going to happen. It is such a big time commitment for me not to really enjoy it.

The movies actually leave a TON out and certain things like the big battles and stuff are not near as intense as they are in the books. I was let down by some of that stuff big time. The movies are great but I’d give the first book a try and see what you think. ❤

I read another Shari Lapena book years ago but I don’t think I’d heard about An Unwanted Guest! Adding it to my TBR!

Oh good! Yeah, I like her stuff but I always end up rating them three stars but this one was four stars – she’s getting much better I think.

Oh pride and prejudice is a great read for the winter. Or to watch with the bbc show. 😉 And the Cruel Prince would work well, especially with the sequel coming out this winter. 😉

You picked some great reads!! Narnia for example and HP of course ❤ I don't have any particular reads I guess although I do find myself reading more Christmas reads this time of the year haha. And I always love to re-read favorites of mine like the Cassandra Clare books for example. I somehow, often end up reading those in December/Winter time

Ohh I think the Shadowhunters would be great in winter. I find like heavy fantasy works well this time of year.
